Shrub, 50-120 cm, glabrous, much branched. Leaves linear-lanceolate, somewhat sinuate, lamina to 10 cm, attenuate at base into short petiole. Flowers solitary or in cymes of 2-3. Calyx deeply divided, teeth linear lanceolate. Corolla white, 10-15 mm diam. Berry orange-red, globose, 1,5 cm, shining. Fl. 6-9. Cultivated.
Native to S. America. Widely cultivated for ornament in many countries because of its persistent showy fruits.
