Stems branched, 50-200 cm, glandular-pubescent above. Leaves shortly petiolate, ovate-elliptic, acuminate. Calyx 10-17 mm, to 4 cm diam. in fruit . Corolla brownish violet with purple veins, 25-35 x 10-15 mm, with short lobes. Stamens and style included. Berry black, shining, 1-2 cm diam. Fl. 6-8. Fagus orientalis woodland, shady places, s.l.-1800 m.
