Biennial, 15-50 cm, loosely greyish-tomentose, glabrescent. Stem branched from base, slender or ± robust, terete. Basal leaves oblong to lanceolate, 3-17 x 16 cm, incised-dentate to deeply pinnatisect, lobes oblong, entire, dentate or pinnatifid; upper cauline serrate-dentate, oblong to triangular. Inflorescence with numerous slender branches, forming pyramidal panicle, with loosely arranged clusters of 2-4 flowers. Bracts cordate to triangular-ovate, serrate-dentate. Pedicels absent; bracteoles lanceolate, often denticulate. Calyx 5-8 mm, lobes linear-lanceolate, acute. Corolla yellow, 25-30 mm diam., with numerous pellucid glands, stellate-tomentose outside. Stamens 5, anthers reniform, filaments with whitish-yellow wool, 2 anterior glabrous near apex. Capsule ellipticovate, 4-5 x 3,5-4 mm, tomentose, glabrescent. 2n = 30. Fl. 5-8. Coastal sands, fixed dunes at s.l.
