Biennial, 60-150 cm, densely adpressed floccose-tomentose below, glabrescent and- glabrous above. Stem slender, terete, branched. Basal leaves with harsh yellowish stellate hairs, lyrate-pinnatisect, subruncinate, 5-22 x 2-9 cm, spathulate-oblong to elliptic-ovate, with broadly ovate-triangular terminal segment 3-8 x 2-7 cm and 2-5 pairs of entire or shallowly lobed lateral segments to 4 x 3 cm, petiole 1-5 cm; lower cauline pinnatifid, upper entire, lanceolate and narrower. Inflorescence loose, with erect branches, forming oblong panicle, with clusters of 1-4 flowers. Bracts small, broadly ovate, acute, ± glandular. Pedicels 2-4 mm. Calyx 2-4 mm, distinctly glandular-hairy, lobes oblong-lanceolate to spathulate. Corolla yellow, 25-30 mm diam., without pellucid glands, glabrous outside. Stamens 5, anthers reniform, filaments with whitish-yellow wool, 2 anterior glabrous above. Capsule elliptic to broadly ovate, 3-5 x 2,5-3,5 mm, with sparse glandular or eglandular hairs, soon glabrescent. Fl 5-6. Macchie, phrygana, Quercus scrub, Pinus forest, 50-1250 m.
