Biennial, 70-90 cm, with rough adpressed yellowish stellate-tomentose indumentum. Stem terete, finely longitudinally striate, branched. Basal leaves obovate-lanceolate, 15-30 x 3-8 cm, entire, acutish or mucronate, petiole winged, indistinct; upper cauline auriculate, semi-amplexicaul, acuminate. Inflorescence with numerous branches, forming pyramidal panicle, with rather loose clusters of 4-7 flowers. Bracts triangular-orbicular or ovate, acuminate or mucronate. Pedicels to 5 mm; bracteoles lanceolate. Calyx 4-5 mm, lobes equalling or slightly shorter than tube, triangular-lanceolate, acute. Corolla yellow, 10-15 mm diam., without pellucid glands, stellate-tomentose outside. Stamens 5, anthers reniform, filaments with whitish-yellow wool up to anthers. Capsule oblong-elliptic, 4,5-5,5 mm, tomentose. Fl. 5-6. Dry slopes, limestone rocks, ruins, sl.-200 m.
