Biennial, 100-200 cm and more, densely adpressed white-tomentose, often glabrescent. Stem very robust, terete or obtuse-angled below, many-branched. Basal leaves ovate to oblong-lanceolate, coarsely crenate or crenate-dentate, acutish or acute, 30-65 x 10-25 cm, petiole indistinct or to 8 cm; cauline broadly decurrent, crenulate to entire, upper caudate. Inflorescence many-branched, forming broad ovate panicle, with loose clusters of 3-9 flowers. Bracts ovate to linear, caudate. Pedicels to 3 mm; bracteoles lanceolate. Calyx 3-5 mm, lobes lanceolate, acuminate. Corolla yellow, 20-30 mm diam., with pellucid glands, sparsely floccose-tomentose outside. Stamens 5, anthers reniform, filaments with whitish-yellow wool up to anthers. Capsule ovate-globose, 4-7 x 4-6 mm, tomentose, glabrescent. Fl. 6-9. Roadsides, fallow fields, Quercus scrub, steppe, coastal sands, s.l-1250 m.
