Biennial, 120-200 cm, floccose-tomentose, with dense, short glandular and longer, branched, eglandular hairs. Stem robust, terete or ± angled, simple or branched above. Basal leaves ovate to lanceolate, acutish, to 60 x 20 cm, coarsely to incised crenate-dentate, sessile or with short petiole; cauline numerous, decurrent, smaller, narrower, upper linear-lanceolate, acuminate, crenulate. Inflorescence dense, becoming ± lax, usually branched, with clusters of 2-4 flowers. Bracts linear-lanceolate, caudate; bracteoles 2. Pedicels 5-8 mm. Calyx 5-8 mm, lobes linear-lanceolate, acutish, Corolla yellow, 20-30 mm diam., with pellucid glands, with glandular and sparse eglandular hairs outside. Stamens 5, 3 posterior filaments with whitish-yellow wool up to anthers, 2 anterior glabrous above, their anthers decurrent,3-3,5 mm. Capsule broadly ovate, 6-8 x 5-6 mm, tomentose Fl. 6. Riversides, scrub, 30-100 m.
