Perennial, erect herb. Roots dimorphic; tuber roots up to 1 cm long; fibrous roots up to 5 cm long. Stem 16–45 cm long,  solitary or sparsely branched, glabrous to sparsely sericeous. Basal leaves 1–6, 1.0–5.0 × 0.7–3.0 cm, simple, ovate-elliptic, entire or crenate, cuneate or acute at base, sub-glabrous; petioles 2–13 cm long, longer than the leaf blade, sheath- ing at base; lower cauline leaves simple, narrowly elliptic to deeply 3-lobed, entire, glabrous or sometimes with few appressed hairs; upper cauline leaves up to 3 cm long, narrowly elliptic-lanceolate, deeply 3-lobed, rarely entire, glabrous or sometimes with few appressed hairs, sheathing at base. Peduncles with sparse long hairs at upper part; pedicels sulcate, sericeous. Flowers 0.8–1.8 cm in diameter, solitary or in few-flowered racemes; sepals 5, spreading, ovate-elliptic, obtuse, black towards the apex, 3.0–5.0 × 2.5–3.0 mm, hairy, with distinct veins and hyaline margin; petals 5, obovate to broadly obovate, 5–10 × 3–5 mm, their adaxial surface white-cream with distinct yellow veins, abaxial surface yellow with distinct brownish veins; nectaries cup shaped. Receptacle hairy. Fruting head 0.5–1.0 cm long, compact, oblong-ovoid. Achenes broadly ovate, 1.88–2.27 × 1.56–2.17 mm, glabrous; stylar beak 0.29–0.82 mm long, recurved.
