Stem 10-35 cm, with a few ascending branches, adpressed-pubescent. Racemes rather dense. Lower bracts 3-5-sect, upper entire. Bracteoles reaching beyond the base of the flower, persistent. Flowers deep purple or violet, 19-33 mm. Posterior sepal 8-15 mm, spur 10-18 mm, always slightly longer than the corolla. Corolla 8-15 mm, subtrilobed with subcordate base, lateral lobes ± rounded at the tips and slightly deflexed. Perianth subpersistent. Follicle oblong, adpressed-strigulose, borne on pedicels refracted downwards. Fl. 6-8. In grain and fallow fields, nr. s.l.-1100 m.
N.E. Greece, N.W. Syrian Desert. In Turkey centred in the Ir.-Tur. region. 
subsp. rosea
Differs from all other subspecies by rose-pink sepals and pinkish-white petals. Fl. 6-7. Field sides, 1000-1100m.
