Slender perennial. Stems ± erect, 15-40 cm, glabrous or finely papillose. Leaves hastate, the central lobe lanceolate to oblanceolate, the lateral lobes sometimes further divided, glabrous. Flowers unisexual, plants dioecious. Inner perianth segments of female flowers etuberculate, not enlarging in fruit, scarcely longer than the nut, 1-1,5 mm. Nut brown, shining. FI. 5-8. Fields, banks, waste places, s.I.-2300 m.
Cosmopolitan weed.
