Erect to decumbent annual. Stem 4-angled, 40-100 cm, covered with short retrorse prickles on angles. Ochreae membranous, cylindrical, with reflexed green apical flange. Petioles 1-7 cm. Leaves hastate, 3-12 x 2-10 cm, subtruncate at base, constricted above basal lobes, pilose with ciliate margin. Flowers in compact terminal glomeruli. Peduncles glandular-hairy. Perianth segments white or pink, to 7mm. Nut cream, trigonous, smooth. Fl. 10. Sea shores, nr. s.l.
