Stem stout, to 80 cm. Spike many-flowered. Bracts narrowly lanceolate, long-acuminate, abundantly glandular-pilose, often white-tomentose, usually equalling corolla tube. Calyx halves separated, bifid or bidentate, calyx teeth narrow, subulate or filiform, rarely lanceolate, 3-veined, divergent. Corolla 20-30 mm, enlarged above insertion of stamens, white or pale, blue- or violet-veined towards limb, when dry whitish or pale brown, nearly glabrous; dorsal line straight from a curved base; lips with broad crenulate-dentate glabrous lobes. Stamens inserted 2-5 mm above corolla base; filaments abundantly pilose near base, glandular-pilose above, rarely glabrous. Stigma pale , violet or dull purple. Fl. 3-5. Mostly on Leguminosae, particularly Vicia faba, s.l.-760 m.
N. Africa, S. Europe, S.W. Asia eastwards to N. Iran.
