Differs from L. stoechas by its long naked peduncles to 35 cm; narrow interrupted spikes with a single remote verticillaster below; bracts all similar, bearing flowers in their axils, coma absent ;calyx appendage obcordate, indistinct; corolla purple, 10-12 mm. Native to W. Mediterranean area.
Widely cultivated for perfume and as an ornamental; the spikes are sold as Lavender .
