Plant 40-70 cm. Rhizome covered with fibrous remains of old leaf bases. Leaves ± linear, rather thin, 0.5-0.8 cm broad, shorter than inflorescence. Stem with 2-3 terminal flowers, often 1-branched. Bracts and bracteoles brown, scarious, 2.5-3.5 cm. Pedicels very unequal, 1-5 cm. Perianth tube 0.4-0.6 cm. Flowers violet-blue with a white, violet-veined central zone on lamina of falls, shading to brownish on claw; falls 4.5-6.5 cm, lamina elliptic, 2.2-3.3 cm broad, narrowing abruptly to claw; standards oblanceolate, 5.5-6 x 1.5-1.7 cm; style branches 3-4 x 0.5-0.8 cm with erect rounded or crenate lobes c. 0.5 x 0.5 cm. Capsule oblong-ellipsoid, 2.5-3.5 x 1-1.5 cm. Fl. 6. Streamsides and wet pastures, 2100-2250 m.
