Plant 20-45 cm. Rhizome slender, tough, clothed with fibrous remainsof old leaf bases. Leaves 0.2-0.4 cm broad, rather tough, slightly shorter than flowers at anthesis. Stem unbranched, with 2-4 terminal flowers. Bracts 6-8.5 cm, pale green with wide transparent margins, becoming almost wholly scarious after anthesis. Perianth tube 0.7-1 cm. Flowers cream-coloured with a large deep yellow zone on lamina of falls; falls strongly recurved, 5-6.5 cm, lamina elliptic, 2.5-3 x 1.2-2 cm, claw ± parallel-sided, c. 3.5 x 0.4 cm; standards 4.5-5.5 x 0.6-1 cm; style branches c. 3.5-4 x 0.5-0.8 cm, with obtuse recurved lobes c. 0.2-0.3 x 0.2-0.3 cm. Ovary with a beak 1-1.5 cm. Capsule c. 1.5-2.5 x 1-1.5 cm with a narrow beak to 1 cm. Fl. 5-7. Dryish turf, or scrub, in open Pinus forests, 1150-2350 m.
