Plant 20-45 cm. Leaves 1.5-2.5 cm broad,±straight or slightly falcate, greyish-green, dying away during winter. Stem branched. Bracts and bracteoles navicular, slightly inflated, obtuse, pale green or almost entirely scarious at anthesis, c. 4 cm. Flowers very variable in colour, white with faint purple veining, pale to deep yellow with brown or green veining, pale blue to deep purple or sometimes bicoloured with blue standards and deep purple falls; falls obovate, cuneate at base, 6-7 x 2.5-4 cm; standards obovate, with a narrow claw, 5.8-7 x 2.5-4 cm; style branches 3-4 x 1.2-1.6 cm with subacute lobes c. 1 x 0.5 cm. Capsule not seen. Fl. 5-6. Among limestone rocks, 750-1800 m.
