Annual, 10-40 cm; adpressed pubescent throughout, eglandular. Lower leaves palmatisect nearly to base, 2-4 cm diam.; segments rhombic, pinnatifid or deeply incised into oblong laciniae; upper leaves opposite, distinctly petiolate and more deeply dissected. Peduncles usually longer than adjacent leaves. Pedicels long, unequal, 2-5 cm, deflexed in fruit. Flowers nodding. Sepals 5-9 mm; awn 2-3 mm. Petals 7-9 mm, emarginate or crenulate, lilac-pink. Mericarps  sparsely adpressed-pubescent, not wrinkled. Seeds foveolate. Fl. 4-6. Rocky slopes, sandy beaches, roadsides, s.l.-200 m.
Europe , N. Africa, Caucasia, W. Syria, N. & N.W. Iran; introduced in N. America.
