Patulous-hairy annual, stems 10-15 cm. Leaflets 1-3 x 1-1,5 cm, obovate to deltoid, apiculate; stipules much smaller. Flowers usually solitary, peduncle short, usually shorter than subtending leaves. Bracts 3, like upper leaflets in shape but smaller. Flowers 12-20 mm. Calyx teeth longer than tube. Corolla deep red , rarely yellow, less than 2 x the calyx; standard equal to or longer than wings and keel. Legume 3-6 x0,5-0,8 cm; wings 2-4 mm wide, often undulate. Fl. 4-6. Fields and macchie, rare.
