Annual, 15-40 cm, often branched from base, indumentum consisting of long spreading eglandular and shorter glandular hairs. Lower and higher leaves unifoliolate, the others trifoliolate; leaflets denticulate, ovate to oblong . Flowers forming long leafy racemes. Peduncle 10-40 mm, long-awned, 1-flowered. Calyx campanulate, 7-10 mm, parted to to 2/3-3/4 into linear acuminate lobes. Corolla pale yellow, 5-13 mm, standard often striped with red. Legume linear to linear-oblong, glandular-hairy, 10-20 x 2-6 mm, 10-20-ovuled. Seeds kidney-shaped to orbicular, tubercled.
A polymorphic species. Subsp. viscosa, with larger corolla and longer peduncle is confined to the W. Medit. area.
