Sparingly pilose to subglabrous perennial. Stems several, to 40 cm, erect, simple, arising from a woody stock, scaly at base. Cauline leaves oblong-oblanceolate to elliptic-ovate or ovate-rhombic, 2-4 x 0.6-1.7 cm, obtuse, entire or subentire, dark green. Ray-leaves elliptic-ovate or rhombic-ovate. Raylet-leaves ovate-rhombic to ovate-deltoid, 0.5-1 x 0.5-1 cm, ± cuneate. Rays 3-5, not or once dichotomous, very short, seldom exceeding 1 cm; axillary rays absent. Fruit trilobate, 5-6 mm diam., densely verrucose. Seeds dorsiventrally compressed-subglobose to ovoid, 2.5-3 mm, smooth, grey. Fl. 6-8. Species-rich alpine and subalpine pasture slopes, deciduous forest, 700-2400 m.
