Small caespitose glabrous perennial, 5-12 cm, with creeping caudiculi. Leaves triangular-ovoid, 4-6 mm, terete, blunt, alternate, densely imbricate on sterile shoots, sparsely so on flowering stems, spurred, persistent, turning white and papery. Inflorescence lax, cymose, 3-10-flowered. Flowers 5-merous, shortly pedicellate; sepals 2-3 mm, blunt; petals 5-8 mm, yellow; stamens 10; follicles glabrous, stellate-spreading. FI. 6-7. Stony places, 800-2000 m.
Throughout Europe, Caucasus, Georgia, Siberia.
