Perennial. Stems ascending to erect, 10-50 cm, retrorsely puberulent. Leaves oblong-oblanceolate, 1-nerved, densely puberulent, often greyish, without sterile shoots in their axils. Inflorescence a raceme or panicle, usually rather lax. Calyx 11-16 mm, retrorsely puberulous, sometimes glandular, the veins conspicuous, very tightly constricted around the anthophore in fruit. Petals cream to greenish, the limb deeply bifid into linear-oblong lobes. Anthophore hairy, 4-8 mm. Capsule ovoid-oblong, about as long as the anthophore or a little longer. Fl. 5-7. Screes, banks, slopes, cultivated ground, 100-2100 m.
Syrian Desert, N.W. & W. Iran. Subsp. supina with longer calyx , less grey indumentum, and fewer-flowered inflorescences may occur in Turkey.
