Like M. montana but 4-15 cm tall; inflorescence of rather crowded but not overlapping clusters; leaves linear-lanceolate, without a membranous margin; bracts leaf-like, longer than the lower clusters but not usually exceeding the upper clusters; flowers erect, spreading or deflexed; calyx truncate at base; sepals linear-triangular; petals present, long as long as sepals; staminal glands bifurcate, appearing as 10 finger-like structures between the stamens; seeds 2-5 per capsule. FI. 4-6. Sandy and gravelly places, s.l.-1300 m.
