Prostrate, ascending or erect annual herbs, often many-stemmed, 5-25 cm. Basal leaves narrowly spathulate to linear. Upper leaves linear to ovate, sessile. Inflorescence 3-16-flowered, the flowers maturing ± simultaneously. Pedicels erect first, soon becoming sharply deflexed at base. Petals 0,7-3,0 x sepals, the ~ usually glabrous. Stamens 5 or 10. Capsules 4-9 mm.

A very variable species, here divided into 3 varieties. The matter is discussed more fully in the paper referred to above. Only specimens seen are cited.
