Erect perennial with glabrous to sparsely hairy stems 70-200 cm. Basal leaves 40-70 cm , pinnatisect, segments oblong-lanceolate to ovate, dentate; glabrous above, puberulent below; cauline similar but smaller and becoming sessile towards top of stem. Inflorescence a compound corymb with many-capitula; capitula radiate, 0,5-1,5 cm broad. Phyllaries 5-6, oblong-obovate, 5-6 mm, glabrous to sparsely pubescent with dark pubescent tip and scarious margin. Calycular bracts few, 1-4 mm. Flowers few, usually 4-6. Ligules 1-2, yellow, 8-9 mm. Achenes 3-4 mm, sericeous. Pappus 5-7 mm, dirty white. Fl. 6-8. Rocky wooded slopes, scrub, damp places, 700-3050 m.
