Biannual or short lived perennial, stem erect, 40–150 cm. Leaves papery when dry, with short scattered hairs, basal lyrate with 5–12 segments, 16–40 x 6–17.5 cm, toothed; lower lyrate with 3–9 segments, 12–24 x 3.5–10.5 cm, toothed, decurrentt; upper 7.8–13.2 x 2–6.1 cm, lanceolate and ending in a distinct mucro, toothed, decurrent. Involucres 18.5–26.5 x 18.5–26 mm, ovate. Appendages triangular, brown, 4–24 x 6.57–13.79 mm, ciliate with 10–27 cilia, 1–4.81 mm, all ending in a 6.79–18.64 mm spine. Flowers pink–purple. Achens 4.14–4.86 x 2.15–2.89 mm. Pappus 7.12–8.92 mm, purple. Fl.6-7. Disturbed Pinus forests, fallow fields, 50-500m
