Perennial with woody base and several decumbent stems, 30-45 cm, simple or with few to several one-headed short branches. Leaves firm, scabrous at margins, floccose-tomentose; basal lanceolate, petiolate, cauline numerous and rather small, 6-15 mm broad, gradually tapering from a broad sessile base or linear-lanceolate. Involucre 25-33 x 15-20 mm, oblong. Appendages rather small, brown or straw-coloured, with 4-7 cilia on each side, 3-4 mm, sometimes ± united to membranous auricles, ending in a 3-8 mm spinule. Flowers yellow. Achenes 7,5-9,5 mm; pappus 18-25 mm, barbellate to plumose, Fl. 6-7. Steppe hills, 1000-1900 m.
