Perennial , stem erect, at least 40 cm, hirsute several short simple branches in upper part. Leaves sparsely hairy, with prominent veins; lower cordate or oblong-cordate with long petiole, lower median ovate, constricted into a short petiole with basal auricles; median obovate to oblong, sessile with clasping and broadly decurrent base; upper lanceolate, decurrent. Involucre 25-30 x 18-20 mm, ovoid. Appendages not totally concealing basal part of phyllaries, straw-coloured to brown, triangular with 9-12 cilia on each side, gradually tapering into spine, 17-19 mm . Flowers purple. Achenes and pappus unknown.
