Leaves 3, usually exceeding inflorescence, outer one to 30 mm broad, margin scabrid or smooth. Scapes 1-3, to 40 cm. Raceme 20-40-flowered, cylindrical, lax, axis often purplish. Pedicels mostly shorter than perianth, almost erect before flowering, then recurved, finally patent to slightly arcuate. Flower buds violet. Perianth whitish with brownish base of tube, narrowly tubular-campanulate, 9-16 mm, lobes 1/2-1/4 x tube, with green midrib. Fruiting raceme cylindrical; pedicels to 1.5 cm, patent to somewhat arcuate. Valves of capsule 12-14 mm, broadly obovate to suborbicular. 2n =8. Fl. 3-4. Moist banks, wet meadows, open stony places, fields, s.l.-300 m.
