 Shrub, 2-4 m. Twigs greyish, glabrous; buds scaly. Leaves palmately 3-lobed, smooth, greenish becoming red in autumn, glabrous or sparsely simple pubescent beneath, irregularly dentate. Inflorescence 5-10 cm diam., outer sterile flowers 15-20 mm, inner fertile flowers c. 6 mm. Fruit globose, c. 8 mm, bright red. Fl. 5-6. Forest edges, hedgerows, etc., 10-1450 m.
