Perennial or biennial, 40-130 cm. Stems glabrous , shining, sometimes purplish-black. Basal leaves thick, petiolate, suborbicular to oblong-spathulate,. margin deeply bicrenate to lobate; lower cauline 7-20 cm incl. 3-8 cm petiole; lamina deeply lyrately pinnatifid to 3-pinnatisect, segments oblong, lanceolate, ovate or ± orbicular, crenate, dentate or pinnatisect. Inflorescence aphyllous. Bracts lanceolate to narrowly triangular, pinnatifid to undivided. Cymes with 8-30 mm peduncle, alternate, 3-15-flowered; alar pedicels 0,5-1 mm, much shorter than glandular 2-8 mm bracteoles. Calyx lobes glabrous, ovate to orbicular, 1,5-4,5x 1,2-3,5 mm; scarious margin 0,3-1,5 mm broad. Corolla 4-8 mm, tube pale brownish-pink to· dirty whitish-red, upper lobes brownish-pink to maroon; stamens included, very rarely subexserted; staminode reniform, transversely as broad as upper lip. Capsule 4-5 x 3,5-5,5 mm, ± globular. Fl. 3-6. Limestone and serpentine cliffs, rocky slopes and scree, dry riverbeds, 10-2200 m.
