Stems numerous, 10-60 cm, erect to ascending, branched, virgate, fragile, quadrangular with sharp projecting ridges, somewhat antrorsely scabrid. Leaves in whorls of 6, caducous, to 10x 1 mm, linear-lanceolate, acute, with revolute, scabrid margins; vein 1/3 x leaf breadth, projecting below. Thyrses elongate to broadly ovoid, composed of numerous mainly 2-flowered terminal and lateral cymes. Bracts linear, opposite; bracteoles 1.5-2 x 0.3-0.5mm, lanceolate, scabrid-ciliate. Flowers sessile. Corolla greenish-yellow or brownish-green, 3.5-5 mm, infundibular, with tube 2-3 x longer than lobes; lobes lanceolate, cucullate at apex, with short, inflexed, triangular appendages. Anthers ellipsoid, c. 0.75 mm. Stigmas clavate. Mericarps 1-1.5 mm, glabrous. Fl. 6-7. Limestone rocks, scree, steppe-hill slopes, 20-1600 m.
