Erect perennial, 50-200 cm. Roots not tuberous. Stem simple or branched, tomentose. Basal leaves with 3-5 pairs of large leaflets, 2-8 cm, toothed and ± lobed, sparsely hairy, green above, tomentose, canescent beneath. Inflorescence 5-25 cm, longer than wide. Sepals hairy, c. 2 mm, reflexed after flowering. Petals 5 or 6, 2-5 mm, clawed. Achenes 2-3 mm, spirally twisted, glabrous. Fl. 5-8. Damp meadows, by streams, 1400-2285 m.
