Rhizomatous. Stems to at least. 1 m, leaves all submerged, to 10 cmX 0.3-1.5 mm, filiform to narrowly linear, acute apiculate or mucronate at apex, entire. Sheaths 14 cm, open, ±convolute, usually with whitish margins. Peduncles to 17 cm. Spikes 2. 5-4 cm, becoming interrupted in late flowering stage. Fruitlets 3-4 mm, obovoid, with short beak. Fl. 4-9. Brackish lagoons and pools, freshwater lakes, rivers, channels, s.l.-1960 m.
Almost cosmopolitan.
