Similar to S. arabica, but with sheaths mostly shorter than internodes; leaf blades smooth and glabrous; glumes usually longer ; lemmas with a dense median row of spreading hairs. Fl. 4-8. Mountain slopes, limestone scree, 400-2500 m.
W. Syria, Syrian Desert, N. Iraq, W. & N.W. Iran, Transcaucasia. Ir.-Tur. element.
