Loosely or rarely densely tufted perennial. Stems 50-80 cm, 3-4-noded, scabridulous on lower internodes. Leaf sheaths scabridulous; ligules 4-8 mm, obtuse to acute. Leaf blades flat or involute, to 4 mm broad, lower surface scabrid or shortly pilose. Panicle lax, 8-15 cm, branches erect-ascending to spreading, solitary or paired, scabridulous. Spikelets lanceolate. Glumes 6-8.2 mm, pale green suffused purple, with yellowish or hyaline margins and tips, glabrous, acuminate; lower 7-veined, 0.5-1 mm longer than 5-veined upper. Lemma elliptic, 4-5 x 1.2-1.3 mm, obtuse, glabrous except at base. Awn terminal, 1.7-2.2 mm, exserted 0.5 mm, straight, caduceus. Lodicules c. 1 mm, lower ovate, upper narrowly elliptic. Anthers 2-2.5 mm, bearded. Caryopsis ellipsoid, 2.5-3 x 1.2-1.3 mm. Fl. 4-6. Steep ridges, rocky limestone slopes, conglomerate rocks in river and on cliffs, open Quercus and Pinus brutia forest, waste places with rubble, nr s.l.-1420 m.
