Stems to 20 cm, erect, rigid. Leaf sheaths inflated, glabrous, with apically directed auricles to 1 mm. Ligules truncate, jagged, less than 1 mm. Inflorescence 1.5-6 cm, straight or rigidly curved. Pedicels absent or to 0.4 mm. Spikelets 3-6.2 mm , overlapping next higher one on same side. Lower glume 2.6-5.1 mm, 1-3-veined, narrowly lanceolate, subulate and pungent at apex, displaced from side of spikelet to lie parallel to rachilla; upper glume similar but not displaced, 3-6.2 mm, longer than rest of spikelet. Lemma 2-3 mm, glabrous to long-scabrid, awnless or with awn to 1.5 mm. Anthers 0.5-1 mm, slightly exserted at anthesis. Caryopsis 1.5-2 rnm, Fl. 4-5. Limestone slopes, salt steppe, waste ground, 400-1400 m.
