Caespitose perennial. Stems 25-100 cm, sericeous-pubescent at base. Inflorescence a terminal pair of racemes 4-14 cm. Sessile spikelets lanceolate, 8-16 mm; lower glume with dorsal surface ± flat, green, with hyaline membranous wing on lateral keels; upper glume with slender awn 4-10 mm; upper lemma with strong geniculate awn 20-30 mm. Stigmas brown. Pedicellate spikelet sterile, aristulate. Fl. 4-7. Field margins, Pinus brutia forest, 20-500 m.
