Differs from V. triloba by ascending-decumbent habit; leaves less fleshy; lamina of lower bracts suborbicular, 7-15 x 8-16 m, 5-lobed usually to less than ½ , central lobe usually overtopping lateral ones; pedicels 9-15 mm in fruit; calyx lobes 5-6 x 4-5 mm, usually glabrous on surface, cilia 20-35 per side, 0,8-1,4 mm, 0,08-0,11 mm broad at base; corolla bright blue, 5-9 mm diam.; style 0,6-1 mm; capsule 3-4x4·5-6 mm; seeds ellipsoid to subglobose, 2,3-3,3 x 2-3 mm, brighter yellow, less strongly rugose, margin broader, clearly involute and thinned, ± smooth. Fl. 3-6. Forests, shady rocky places, dunes, fields, vineyards, 50-2000 m.
