Perennial, 1-7 cm, stems decumbent and ± repent, woody at base, 5-20 cm, strongly branched. Leaves subsessile, suborbicular, ovate, elliptic or oblanceolate, 4-10 x 4-8 mm, cuneate at base, eglandular or glandular-pubescent with 0.1-0.5 mm hairs, rarely subglabrous, margin ± flat, crenate to serrate with 3-7 teeth per side. Racemes 1-3, usually alternate, ascending to erect, 2-4 cm, densely 5-20-flowered, often ± secund, glandular- or eglandular pubescent, peduncle 1-3 cm, thicker than axis of shoot apex. Bracts rhombic to lanceolate, lower often sterile, sometimes slightly serrate. Pedicels 2-7 mm, 0,8-2 x bracts. Calyx 2-5 mm, lobes 4, oblong-oblanceolate. Corolla blue or purple, 7-11 mm diam. Style 3-4 mm. Capsule suborbicular, 3-4.5 x 3.5-4.5 mm, subequalling calyx or often slightly shorter, shortly glandular- or eglandular-pubescent, base rounded, sinus rather shallow, obtuse-angled. Seeds 4-8, elliptic, 1-2 x 0,7-1,5 mm, convex, rugose. Fl. 4-8. Open Pinus nigra and Juniperus forest and scrub, rocky and grassy slopes, scree, 1100-2200 m.
