Stems 60-150 cm, unbranched, pubescent above, glabrous in lower part. Leaves in whorls of 2-4, petiole 5-10 mm; lamina lanceolate, 50-120 x 15-35 mm, pubescent to subglabrous, base usually truncate, sometimes shortly cuneate or subcordate, margin sharply, often doubly serrate. Racemes terminal, 10-25 cm, often with 2-6 smaller lateral ones just below, axis pubescent. Pedicels elongating slightly in fruit, 1-3 mm, pubescent. Bracts linear, 1-6 x pedicels. Calyx 2-3 mm, shortly ciliate or subglabrous, rarely pubescent, always eglandular. Corolla lavender-blue, lobes lanceolate, not twisted. Capsule 3-4 x 2,5-3 mm, glabrous. Fl. 7. River banks, Salix scrub, wet meadows, s.l.-2200 m.
