Perennial. Stems 45-60 cm, hirsute below. Leaves in the lower part of the stems only, lanceolate, irregularly serrate to pinnatifid. Flowers borne singly, or occasionally in groups of up to 3. Petals orange. Capsule glabrous, obovate-clavate, somewhat ribbed, with a bluish-black bloom. Stigmas 5-6. Fl. 7-8. Banks, meadows, screes, etc., 1200-3000 m.
Endemic; Euxine element. 
Subsp. monanthum 
Subsp. monanthum differs from the type subspecies in having scapose stem, 6-9 stigmatic rays and the smaller capsule . Fl. 6-7. Stony places in alpine zone. 2500-2800 m.
