Differs from P. somniferum in its pinnatisect leaves with triangular-oblong to linear-oblong segments, buds ovoid, 2-3 cm, petals red with a black blotch at the base, and the capsule 1,5-2 cm. Fl. 5-6. Chalky vineyards, etc., up to 1700 m.
