Tunics papery, densely lined with long, soft, straight hairs. Leaves 4, thin, glaucous, ± erect, mostly undulate, all ciliate or lowest not, 13-30 x 3-5.5 cm. Flowers red, paler outside, with or without small short black blotch, mostly not edged with yellow. Outer perianth segments 55-90 x 22-30 mm, narrowly ovate, acuminate; inner 42-65 x 18-23 mm, narrowly obovate, rounded or acute. Filaments 9-15 mm, black; anthers 9.5-21 mm; pollen yellow. Ovary glaucous, ±narrowed below stigma. Fl. 3-5. Weed of cultivation.
