Bulb to 3 cm diam., sometimes with many bulblets. Stem 15-30 cm, smooth. Leaves 4-6, glaucous above, alternate, linear, canaliculate; lowest 5.5-11 x 0.4-1.1 cm, middle 8-14 cm, upper 6-11 cm. Flowers 1-4; perianth narrowly campanulate, brownish-purple, with a clear green stripe; outer segments 20-32 x 4-8 mm, lanceolate to cuneate, usually acute, inner 6-11 mm broad, obtuse or apiculate. Nectaries 2-3 x 1 mm, lanceolate, at base of perianth. Filaments 7-10 mm, stout, papillose. Anthers often dark purple before dehiscence. Style 7-11 mm, 3-fid; branches 1-3.5 mm, very stout, papillose. Capsule not winged. 2n = 24,36. Fl. 3-5. Edge of Pinus brutia forest, macchie, cornfields, 10-1200 m.
