Like M. anatolica but densely tufted to cushion-forming, the flowering shoots usually 3-8 cm; inflorescence usually rather dense, 2-10-flowered but sometimes laxer and up to 25-flowered; sepals 2,5-4,5 mm, ovate to ovate-lanceolate , broadly acute, usually red-tinted; petals as long as or more usually longer than sepals .
