Monocarpic perennials, pulvinate, caespitose and 8 – 20-stemmed at the base, arising from a thick tap root. Stems 5 – 22 × 0.3 – 0.7 cm, erect, simple or rarely with short, simple branches from the base to the middle of the stem; branches erect, up to 3 cm long, glabrous at upper half and slightly hairy or subglabrous at lower part. Leaves densely covered with whitish, ribbon-like hairs; rosette leaves 1 – 6 × 0.2 – 0.6 cm including petiole, spathulate, linear-oblanceolate or oblanceolate or obovate, obtuse to obtuse-acute at apex, margins mostly undulate; cauline leaves 0.7 – 5.5 × 0.2 – 0.5 cm including petiole; lower cauline leaves similar to rosette leaves, spathulate or oblanceolate, obtuse to acute at apex, margins mostly undulate; middle and upper cauline leaves ovate, lanceolate to linear, acute to acuminate at apex, margins mostly undulate. Inflorescence unbranched or sometimes a short-branched spike-like raceme, 15 – 100-flowered on each stem; flowers solitary or 2 – 3-clustered, sessile or pedicellate; pedicels mostly absent or 0.5 – 2 mm long, c. 1 mm wide, rarely up to 7 mm long, mostly glabrous, very rarely lax arachnoid; bract 1 – 4 × 0.5 – 2 mm, lanceolate to broadly triangular, entire, whitish ribbon-like hairy on margins, sometimes resembles upper cauline leaves. Flowers with calyx erect, 1.5 – 3× 0.8 – 2 mm, lanceolate, glabrous. Corolla, sky blue to pale violet, whitish-violet near base, outer surface glabrous, inner surface villous near margins; Corolla lobes 12 – 15 × 1.2 – 3.5 mm, spreading; petals united at the base less than 1 mm long. Pistil 6 – 13 mm long; ovary 1 – 2 × 0.7 – 1.2 mm, conical, with whitish ribbon-like hairy below capsule pores, rest nearly glabrous; style 8 – 10 mm long, exserted from corolla, pale violet; stigma 3-merous, 1 – 1.5 mm long, short, flat, papillate. Stamen 4 – 7 mm long; filament 1.5 – 3 × 0.8 – 1.5 mm, base of filament 1 – 2 × 0.8 – 1.5 mm, triangular-lanceolate, margins ciliate, white; anther 2.5 – 4 mm long, dirty white to yellow. Pollen grains pinkish-purple. Capsule 4 – 11 × 3 – 6 mm, ovate to elliptic, glabrous, opening by three apical pores. Seeds 1 – 1.75 × 0.5 – 0.75 mm, light brown or dirty white, shiny, smooth.
