Perennial herb with a blackish woody stock producing few to several flowering and non-flowering shoots. Rosette leaves numerous, 3–10 cm × 3–7 mm with petiole, linear-oblanceolate, acute, adpressed grey to silvery tomentose on both sides. Flowering stem 13–30 cm, erect, sometimes flexuous, simple, sulcate, tomentose. Cauline leaves mostly reduced, 0.5–4 × 0.1–0.3 cm; lower cauline leaves similar to rosette leaves, highly reduced; upper cauline leaves linear-lanceolate to linear, sessile. Inflorescence dense, 20–70 flowered, subumbellate, consisting of 3–7 scorpioid, ebracteate cymes each with 6–14 nodding flowers. Peduncles and pedicels straightening and elongating considerably in fruit, tomentose; pedicels to 2 cm at anthesis, to 3 cm at fruiting; peduncles to 3 cm at anthesis, to 5 cm at fruiting. Calyx silvery to grey tomentose-lanate, divided to base into narrowly lanceolate, acute lobes 6–7 × 1.5–2 mm long in flower, slightly accrescent and often deflexed in fruit. Corolla 9–10 mm, regular, light pinkish-purple with darker striation, lobed to 2/5–1/2; tube with distinct vaginations at middle of corolla, ca. 1.5 mm below base of lobes; faucal appandages at midle of corolla; lobes erect, linear-lanceolate, 4–5 × 1.2–1.5 mm, subacute. Stamens inserted in a single whorl at middle of corolla; anthers 2–2.5 mm, never exserted, reaching up to or slightly surpassing the half of corolla lobes; pollen grains of prolate-spheroidal to subprolate in shape, P= 12.5–13.75 μm, E = 9.50–10.45 μm; ornemantation is heterocolpate and ectocingulate . Style distinctly exserted corolla, ca. 1.5 cm, persistent; stigma minute, capitate. Nutlets suborbicular, 13–16 × 11–15 mm, smooth, with a broad, somewhat undulate wing, without glochids; wing obscurely muricate-dentate at margin.
