Silvery grey-tomentose perennial. Stems simple, 10-30 cm, densely leafy. Basal leaves linear-lanceolate, lamina 75-120 x 10-45 mm; cauline linear, very acute, sessile, adpressed to stem. Inflorescence terminal, corymbose. Calyx lobes 5.5-6.5 mm, lanceolate-ovate, obtuse, 1-nerved. Corolla reddish-purple, 8-11-5 mm, tube equalling or slightly exceeding deeply lobed limb. Faucal appendages very small, fold-like, 0.1-0.3 x 0.4-0.7 mm. Anthers included. Nutlets 12-16 mm diam. incl. wing, suborbicular, flat, unornamented; wing 3-4 mm broad entire or slightly dentate, without glochids. Fl. 6-7. Rocky or earthy slopes, often on limestone, to snow-line, 1500-3050 m.
