Plant suffruticose, 22-60 cm, with numerous unbranched leafy stems arising from thick woody base. Leaves scabrous, with stalked and punctate glands, entire, linear-lanceolate, 15-30 x 1.5-4 mm at base of stem, becoming gradually much smaller above. Capitula solitary or in few-headed corymbs. Involucre 10-13 x 4-5 mm; phyllaries ovate-mucronate, sparsely villous, green to brown. Flowers dirty white, fragrant. Achenes 3-6 mm; pappus 8-10 mm. Fl. 8-9. Limestone & igneous cliffs, rocky places in Quercus woods, 360-1900 m.
